HP Ink-jet Products and Supplies
With very few exceptions, all HP color ink-jet print cartridges retain ink-jet ink by means of an internal sponge and contain the printhead element as part of the ink-jet print cartridge. The notable exceptions are the HP 51640 series ink-jet print cartridges and HP 51644 series ink-jet print cartridges, which are similar to the 51645A. Black HP ink-jet print cartridges tend to rely on vacuum to keep the ink the cartridge; the HP 51645A and its variants do not have a sponge, but rather a foil bag inside that holds the ink-jet ink.

| OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). Typically, ink-jet print cartridges containing their own printhead elements are ONLY made by the same company that made the ink printer. This has to do with the proprietary ink-jet print cartridge design usually protected by patent or equivalent. There is tendency to believe that OEM ink-jet print cartridges are made in the US and aftermarket ink-jet print cartridges abroad. Many (if not most) OEM ink-jet print cartridges are manufactured overseas. Not unheard of, the same company may produce ink-jet print cartridges with two different labels (original) and (compatible). |
